GPR productions second show of the spring show season we are calling the "Get Off The Couch" Concert Series featured three completely different bands sound wise, but all connected by their intensity and commitment to give the audience a great show. We featured to start the night off a Toledo punk outfit called The Infernal Names. Having only heard their stuff previously on myspace I was curious to see what they would be like live. Well I'll tell you if Jesus Lizard and Scratch Acid is your thing, then Jake, Nick, Ben and Mark are right up your alley.

Live Show Review: Show recap - Circus Boy, The Dougouts, and Ironclad
Our spring season of shows started out with a BANG on Saturday night. So sorry if you missed the show at Toledo's Longhorn Saloon. It was a packed house with a diverse crowd who were loud, appreciative, and had a good time for their 5 bones.

Whoever thinks mid-western hardcore is dead is out of their minds. It may not be the hardcore old farts like me know, or even some of our little bothers, but the bands that demolished the stage at the Black Cherry in Toledo Saturday proved that hardcore is living, breathing, drinking and fuckin breeding too.

A great fall evening with some nip in the air, close to Halloween, perfect night to cozy up to a bar and watch some pretty kick ass bands. All at our favorite Globalpunkreview.com watering hole, the Longhorn Saloon in Toledo.

I had not seen the Trash Brats play since ohhh I don't know, maybe the 90's sometime or so. This little reunion they planned for Saturday night was expected to be big. I mean they were one of the most popular acts around for over a decade in and around the city of Detroit. Despite the critics, despite the naysayers and hell despite themselves sometimes..... I was looking forward to it, trainwreck or glorious homecoming.

Live Show Review: Punkfest 20009 Benefit for Children's Hospital of Detroit
Talk among your small circle of friends, and or family, and chances are you know someone who's child has been touched with sickness, birth defect, disease and so on....Very few think they can do something to help, even fewer act on it.On September 12, 2009 Detroit,Toledo,Ypsilanti, and Ann Arbor's small but loud punk rock community came together at the Old Miami in Detroit to act and help Children's Hospital take some of the familes burdens away.

What year did area rock die? Was it when Nirvana came along? Or, was it when Motley Crue pissed away true rock n roll spirit settling instead for life's excess and musical mediocrity? Dont get me wrong there are the old war horses out there who in many loyal fans mind never stopped being relevant, bands like Iron Maiden,Judas Priest,Motorhead ect... But where was the next generation? Guns N Roses imploded before they reached Rolling Stones status,LA Guns stuck with record exes that wont promote properly,Hanoi Rocks tried but ultimately settled for the Asian and European tour circuit before they called their second go around quits. So, who's taking a crack at it today? Who can one day given the right breaks pack them in at Joe Louis Arena, or Staples Center for example? New Disaster out of Austin Texas,Crank County Daredevils from North Carolina, and the Sex Slaves out of New York City are a few that come to mind. All three are different in their approach to hard rock but what sets the Sex Slaves apart form this select group is the accessibility of their songs, the sound, and stage presence.

Day two of the weekend rock n roll express takes the Black Knots, Grommet, Smoke Theory, and brand spankin new band Halfmoon Highway to Simon' s in Allen Park.Michigan.Now although Globalpunkreview.com did not book the show we took an interest in helping out wherever possible, what’s good for our friends is good for us, and vice versa. So we had thrown fliers out all over the web for this one, while the boots on the ground people took care of business elsewhere. Simons seemed upon first entry to be a dance club/live venue/sports bar all rolled up into one, much bigger than Fridays Longhorn Saloon in ....Toledo..... The place seemed to get pretty full rather quickly as show time drew near, which in itself is unusual ,in my mind people come out form their rocks later in the evening.

The Friday August 7,2009 line up for The Longhorn Saloon show was about as strong as any line up globalpunkreview.com has ever set up. I’m proud of the bands ,the audience that supported the show, and everyone involved to make it happen. Even though I don’t technically review our “own” shows I would like to say something about each band that performed.

What a night! Every band just nailed their spots last night. I want to thank everyone who traveled from near and far to be there last night. It was nice to see new faces in the crowd, and it was cool to actually say hi face to face to a number of folks last night instead of just myspazz messaging. I get a kick out of that, and appreciated the cold ones too.

Live Show Review: BLOODY MESS & THE NEW DISEASE/Choking Susan @ The Ritz
Frost Fest at the Ritz, how nicely named for a city that has not had the temp above 20 in forever. Billed as five bands, two of which I didn't catch. I was going to see Choking Susan and Bloody Mess and the New Disease. Since I got there early enough I caught a band called Konniption Fit. Might as well tell you what I think about what I heard and saw.

Live Show Review: Full Scale Panic-Release party for You Create the Poor
It's nights like Saturday that sometime make me feel the age. It's cold as hell, snowing (lots on the ground already) and frankly I'm a little sleepy. But I head out the door, and find myself thinking about these "kids" in Full Scale Panic. It's their CD release show, and I'm hoping they have a good turn out despite the weather.

When at an invite party, is it considered a show debut? Well either way, this was the first display of Bloody Mess and the New Disease in the spotlight, in a non-impromptu, "band mates there: check, instruments available: check" sort of way. Most reading this have heard the infamous tales of Bloody Mess and his notorious antics while fronting various bands (25 years of rock n roll kiddies, lots of time and lots of stories)... But when it is all broken down to the actual music, Bloody's reputation may precede the the actual talent and passion that is the real Bloody Mess.

Live Show Review: The State/Nightbringer/AsGoodAsDead/Full Scale Panic/Manute Bol
The Longhorn Saloon is even closer to my house than many other Toledo venues, so a punk show here was pretty cool. I hear from a number of Toledo scene vets that the Longhorn used to hold punk shows there often a few years back. Hopefully the good sized crowd this show drew will be a start for doing them again.

Live Show Review: Globalpunkreview.com mini tour-what a weekend!
Should I write a review on a small series of shows I put together? Ehhhh probably not.But I can tell you my thoughts on everything and what happened.Plus some things I learned. Maybe someone who paid to enter could write something up more in a review kinda style. I'm biased.

Several months ago, there was a cosmic collision in my life and I was lucky enough to review Grommet’s Feeding the Hand that Bites. I say “lucky” because band line-up Dustin Aller, Mike Korn, and Mark Chudy rock. HARD. Imagine my surprise when I heard that these Detroit-based boys were actually coming within 30 minutes of my hometown in North Carolina. Not as part of a tour, but as a get-together with fellow hard rockers (and, once again, I do mean HARD) Gillotine (in this case, pronounced GE-UH-TEEN).

I dragged my carcass and aching feet in the door about 3am.Sat down with the history channel(or it the Hitler channel?) and ate a few simply delicious Evie's tamales( Thanks Greg) and passed out. Not because of booze either I was freekin tired. Believe it or not only three beers from 3-till 2am. Coca-Cola was going down much better. But my first waking thought when I got up at 6:30am to go drive my Zamboni was ,damn what a great night! I mean it too. I could not have asked for a better group of volunteers, bands, and fans coming together not only to see a kick ass show but to socialize, enjoy the great weather, hang out in the yard, and support Children's Hospital and everything they do.

Distortion ‘til Deafness was a punk rock event held at The Berea Fairgrounds on 7/12/08, and is a fine illustration of how hard it is to put on a God damned punk rock show. Sorry for the language. It seemed like everything was against us putting on a good show. Boo fucking hoochie hizzle. We need to put on our own shows.

Sunday 6/15/08. Lorain Skum had a show scheduled and the guy who put it together messed up and we ended up having it at some dude's garage on Oberlin Ave. in Lorain. It turned out better that way.

Live Show Review: Donita Sparks and The Stellar Moments @ Magic Stick
During the early to mid 90's I frequently could be heard saying during music discussions, "Guys one chick in L7 could kick all of Metallica's ass", and this was way before St Anger. You know what? It still holds true, only tonight we were treated to two members of the now legendary band.

Bright sunny and perfect for a drive to Detroit.. errrr, well Hamtramck. For those not in the know its a little city inside Detroit to over simplify things. I roll up to the Belmont just as the Black Knots' unmistakable black and orange '74 van does.
