Whoever thinks mid-western hardcore is dead is out of their minds. It may not be the hardcore old farts like me know, or even some of our little bothers, but the bands that demolished the stage at the Black Cherry in Toledo Saturday proved that hardcore is living, breathing, drinking and fuckin breeding too.
I'm not gonna get into the details about the Black Cherry just yet, this place is special and deserves an article all on its own. As well as SBS Records too.
The Evicted, Number9Hard, Antiseptic, SixSixSix, Iron Minds and Full Scale Panic all played their asses off for an unusually large Toledo crowd, especially considering the horrible weather.Through equipment problems, late arrivals, broken glass, blood, and fire crackers, each band braved it all, and fed off of it. This was the kind of show that took me back to 1987 sans all the long hair on my head and about 100lbs. LOL
Brilliant effin show, high marks to the Black Cherry for hosting it, SBS records for flipping the bill and making it a free show, the bands for playing hard, and the crowd for making it all exciting. Saturday night was what the scene should be about all the time, supporting the bands out to entertain you, getting off the couch, off the computer and being a part of something.
